FEA-Based Ultrasonic Focusing Method in Anisotropic Media for Phased Array Systems

Traditional ultrasonic imaging methods have a low accuracy in the localization of defects austenitic welds because anisotropy and inhomogeneity cause distortion wave propagation paths anisotropic media. The distribution grain orientation influences velocity paths. To overcome this issue, finite element analysis (FEA)-based methodology for is proposed study. method uses database to synthetically focus inter-element signal recorded with phased array system using delay-and-sum strategy. was constructed FEA considering elastic constants welds. extracted from macrograph obtained dissimilar metal weld specimen, after which were optimized information. performed calculate full matrix time-domain signals all combinations transmitting receiving elements system. approach assessed an FEA-based simulated model embedded defect. simulation results proved that newly can be used defect
